As the name suggests hypo and hyper , in hypothyroidism , less amount of thyroid hormone is produced , whereas in hyperthyroidism , more amount of thyroid hormone is produced.

In hypothyroidism , the whole metabolism of the body slows dow , the heart rate decreases , and the intestinal system becomes sluggish and there also there is less heat production.

In hyperthyroidism what you have is an overactive thyroid , which increases the metabolic rate of the body , more heat production , and all the body functions are sped up.
