Bidirectional replication means that replication is taking place in both the direction. It occurs in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. If we have a mutant which can not undergo bidirectional replication, it means it will undergo uni-directional replication.
Uni-directional replication is seen in some cases like rolling circle model of DNA replication which occurs in the replication of plasmid DNA in from bacteria and mitochondrial DNA. In these cases it is normal. But if uni-directional replication is seen in chromosome and DNA of bacteria, then the bacteria will take a longer time for its DNA replication.
Bidirectional replication is important to replicate all the DNA present in a Cell rapidly. In its absence, unidirectional replication will occur and the bacteria will now take a longer time for replicating its DNA.
