NADH and FADH2 which are created in the mitochondrial matrix during citric acid cycle undergoes oxidation resulting in the production of ATP, i.e. Oxidative phosphorylation. NADH and FADH2 deposit their electron into electron transport chain at complexes 1st and 2nd, respectively. The process of oxidative phosphorylation occurs in the inner membrane of mitochondria. Here, in the inner mitochondrial membrane the 2 reactions(oxidation of NADH and FADH2 and the phosphorylation process to generate ATP) occurs which is coupled by a proton gradient across the inner membrane of mitochondria.
