Though diphyllobothriasis is asymptomatic often, and they occur as mild ones in the form of fatigue, constipation or abdominal discomfort. That means mainly the digestive system gets affected at first. Though the lab tests shown nothing, but a frank perinicious anemia and low levels of vitamin B12 could lead to confirmaition of this disease. As pernicious anemia occurs only when the tapeworm proximal small intestine and compete for vitamin B12 absorption. Perhaps, the stool too will have ova or the worm of the patient.
