what is the role of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes [TIL] in patient prognosis
Tumors antigens elicit an immune response in the host and this results in the infiltration of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) to tumors. TILs include T-helper cells, T-cytotoxic cells, natural killer cells, B-lymphocytes, and macrophages.TheseTILs interact with tumor cells and eliminate them. However some tumor cells become resistant to TILs and escape immune detection or destruction. Presence of TILs is an indication of better prognosis and response to therapy for tumors.
