1. Let me tell you one thing, E.coli is present as the normal flora of intestine. This type does not cause any disease. Only the virulent strains of E.coli - E.coli 0517:H7 being the one are involved in causing disease. Some of the disease caused by E.coli are traveler's diarrhea, Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs), cholecystitis, bacterimia, and cholangitis. Humans acquire these infections by eating undercooked food, fecal contamination, using public toilets.

2. Some of the strategies that can be employed to prevent infections by E.coli are eating properly cooked food, maintaining hand hygiene, not using public toilets.
