E. coli offers advantages

1. Very low cost

The carbon sources and media needed for the growth of bacteria are very cost-effective.

2.Very high yield

The yield would be very high in the case of E.coli with inducible promoter. the cytokine production can go up to 100 mg/ml per 1 L culture. this figure of yield cannot be achieved from the bloodstream by any means.

3. Very fast production

the yield of cytokines can be achieved within 12 h. whereas blood production takes time.
