Homework Answers

Answer #1

ANSWER :-

  1. Cholesterol is present in two different forms namely esterified and unesterified form.
  2. The free cholesterol or the unesterified form is the one acted upon by the enzyme cholesterol oxidase which converts it into products namely Cholest-4-en-3-one along with hydrogen peroxide.
  3. Esterified form on the other hand liberates fatty acid which can be metabolized to produce 9 kcal per gram.
  4. Although, the energy yield from unesterified form of cholesterol ranges from 0-0.8 kcal which is less.
