ANSWER :-
- Cholesterol is present in two different forms namely esterified
and unesterified form.
- The free cholesterol or the unesterified form is the one acted
upon by the enzyme cholesterol oxidase which converts it into
products namely Cholest-4-en-3-one along with hydrogen
peroxide.
- Esterified form on the other hand liberates fatty acid which
can be metabolized to produce 9 kcal per gram.
- Although, the energy yield from unesterified form of
cholesterol ranges from 0-0.8 kcal which is less.
