For each strain, select whether it is a prototroph or an auxotroph.
Escherichia coli ΔargG
Serratia marcescens WB32
Escherichia coli ΔargF
Serratia marcescens HLCW

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Protoprophs are the strains of microorganisms that are able to produce all the amino acids and therefore can grow in an amino acid-deficient medium

Auxotrophs are the mutatant strains of microorganisms that are unable to produce one or more amino acid due to mutations and require that amino acid be added int the medium to grow.

Δ used to denote the auxotrophs of a particular mutant.

Hence

Escherichia coli ΔargG and Escherichia coli ΔargF are auxotrophs while Serratia marcescens WB32 and Serratia marcescens HLCW are prototrophs
