Answer #1

Hi Answer:

The Escherichia coli 0157:H7 is one of the recognized pathogen which cause the hemorrhagic colitis. On simple MAC plates having Lactose its not possible to differentiate between E.coli and E.coli 0157:H7. But can be easily identified or differentiate on the MAC sorbitol plates commonly known as (SMAC medium). Because E. coli O157:H7 is unable to ferment sorbitol like simple E.coli strains. On the bases of sorbitol fermentation we can differentiate these two strains from each other.

QUESTION 3 [2 marks] Escherichia coli are bacteria commonly found in the large intestines of humans and other animals. They obtain nutrients by absorption, but nutrients are scarce in the large intestine. They are rod-shaped, approximately 3 µm long and 0.5 µm in diameter. Suggest why they are so small.[2 marks] Your answer:

The genetic material of the Escherichia coli cell with a diameter of about 1 μm and a length of about 2 μm, consists of a DNA molecule with a diameter of 2 nm and a total length of 1.36 mm. (The molecule is actually circular, with a circumference of 1.36 mm.) To be accommodated in a cell that is only a few micrometers long, this large DNA molecule is tightly coiled and folded into a nucleoid that occupies a small...

When a dielectric is inserted between the plates of a capacitor, the capacitance increases compared to the situation when vacuum is between the plates. Which choice best explains why this change happens? a. For a fixed voltage across the plates, less charge is on the plates compared to the vacuum situation. b. For a particular charge on the plates, the electric field between the plates is reduced compared to the vacuum situation. c. For a particular charge on the plates,...
