Injuries can occur due to a weakness or lack of mobility especially in the arm. Choose either the elbow, wrist, or hand and describe an exercise to stretch and an exercise to strengthen the muscles that surround that joint. What muscles are specifically being targeted?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

I choose elbow because elbow is more prone to injury because of its repetitive movement. Repetitive movement cause a injury to the muscle tissues. As a stretch and strengthen exercise we focus on the elbow muscles. Stretch the triceps, flexor carpi muscles and extensor carpi muscles. And also strengthen the extensor carpi muscles.

Active stretch of triceps can be done by flexing the forearm and the shoulder joint completely. Put a gentle push over the triceps muscle. This elongated the muscle.

The extensor carpi can be stretched by pulling the finger in upward direction and the flexor carpi is stretched by pulling the hard in downward direction.

The flexor carpi muscle can be strengthened by resisted exercise while flexing the forearm.

The extensor carpi muscle can be strengthened by resisted exercise while extending the forearm.
