How is the sedimentation rate of a person suffering from a
myocardial
infarction different from a person's sedimentation rate suffering
from angina
pectoris?
the sedimentation rate for angina pectoris is less
no difference
the sedimentation rate for myocardial infarction is less
myocardial infarction cannot be measured with a sedimentation rate
Option A-The sedimentation rate for angina pectoris is less.
ESR is Erythrocyte sedimentation ratio which shows the ability of red blood cells to settle over a duration of one hour. ESR is elevated when there is a disease such as inflammation or tissue damage.
ESR is not affected by angina pectoris because in Angina- the blood is not damaged, there is inhibition of blood flow due to forms of atherosclerosis .
But in Myocaridal Infarction-ESR is elevated within 3 days of the infarction & remain elevated for weeks .
This is because Inflammation in heart is a part of myocardial infarction ---these inflammatory cells signal back to the liver----which increase inflammatory proteins-----This result in the increased Erythrocyte sedimentation rate.
