A person suffering from lactic-acidosis (high levels of lactic acid in their blood) will often have a high respiratory rate. can you explain why the reapiratory rate is elevated above normal?

Answer #1

Lactic Acidosis is a condition with elevated lactate in body, with low pH in blood stream. Here, excessive acid accumulates due to impairment in body's oxidative mechanism...Here,this metabolic acidosis is severely affected with lungs and hence its inability to remove Co2 from the body.Hence CO2 gets accumulated which leads to decreased pH in the body.Acidosis occur when pH is below 7.35.CO2 cannot pass from bloodstream to lungs due to a decreased respiratory rate of air movement with condition like asthma,COPD etc

As lactic acid accumulates a person will develop an oxygen debt. This is why people often breathe heavily immediately following exercise. The standard definition of oxygen debt is the amount of oxygen that blood and tissue require to be restored to pre-exercise levels. What two major actions need to be corrected by oxygen returning to its pre-exercise levels?

Patients that are suffering from COVID-19 are often put on mechanical ventilators. A ventilator assists with breathing when breathing on your own is too difficult. The bronchiole tree can accumulate mucous and the person can also have a hard time exchanging air with the atmosphere. If a person is oxygen deficient, one sign would be that some body parts might turn cyanotic or bluish. List at least three signs and symptoms that indicate a person may be cyanotic and are...

Some explanations of glycolysis, lactic acid fermentation and aerobic cellular respiration seem to indicate that your cells SWITCH between the two options to finish glycolysis: lactic acid fermentation OR cellular respiration. This is not the case! Your cells do not choose EITHER lactic acid fermentation OR aerobic cellular respiration. What is the necessary item for glycolysis to continue to aerobic cellular respiration instead of lactic acid fermentation? Unless you are dead (no respiration, no blood circulation), are your muscle cells...

1. You have just admitted Mary Roberts, a 70-year-old woman, to the hospital for GI bleeding. Her blood pressure is 130/80, pulse 80/min and irregular, respirations 18/min, and temperature 99.2. Mrs. Roberts denies pain at this time although she appears anxious and very pale. Her medical history includes lung cancer that was diagnosed two weeks ago, peptic ulcer disease with reflux esophagitis, and "fluid retention". Admission lab work shows a plasma Na+ of 152 mEq/L and K+ of 2.8 mEq/L....
