What are some of the physical consequences of lumbar intervertebral disc degeneration?
Lumbar disc degeneration results in
the formation of bone spurs at the edges of affected vertebrae.
These small bony outgrowths exhibit compressive force on spinal
nerves. As a result, numbness/weakness in arms and legs is
observed. If thse outgrowths increase in size and compress the
spinal cord, it will lead to serious problems with bowel control,
bladder movements, and walking. If the degeneration is continued
further, it will result in sever pai and impared movement due to
nerve damage.
