what is the fuction of the AV valves? What happens to the blood flow if one of these valves fails?

Answer #1

Atrioventricular valve is localized at the boundary between atria and ventricle on right and left side of heart. It functions in preventing the backward flow of blood from the venticle chamber into atrial chmaber during systolic contraction.

If one of these valve fails, the backflow of blood from upper atrial chamber to lower ventricular chamber during contraction. This prevents the sufficient blood flow to the different body parts or tissues .In order to supply adequate amount of blood to the body parts, heart contracts frequently with higher pressure may cause cardiac arrest.
