Describe what you think would happen to the flow of blood if the bicuspid (left AV) valve was damaged? Include the normal flow of blood and indicate if there is any change to the flow through the chambers involved.

Answer #1

Biscupid valves (or mitral valve) is present between left atrium and left ventricle. Normally it prevents backflow of blood to left atrium when left ventricle contracts. Damaged valves can't close properly so when the LV undergoes systole then some blood backflow into LA and this decreases the amount of blood being pumped into systemic circulation (to aorta).

Describe what would happen if instead of the AV bundle and bundle branches running down the septum and branching into Purkinje fibers that run up the lateral sides (outside walls) of the heart, the conducting pathway went from the AV node and branched out in a web throughout the ventricles towards the apex. How would this impact electrical activity and contraction of the ventricles? A complete answer should describe the function in the normal case, and how the new case...
