describe how the av valves function
The av Valves or the atrioventricular valves in the heart serve as connectors of the atrium and ventricle sections. They play a key role in directinoning the flow of blood in one direction. The "open" and "close" state of the valves depends upon the pressure differences between the atria and ventricles. These valves direct the blood flow from atria to the ventricles but prevent the flow of blood from ventricles to the atria. When the atria contracts, the pressure of the atria exceeds in compraison to the ventricles thereby opening the AV valves.Though contraction of ventricles which leads to higher pressure than the atria, these AV valves remain shut and prevent flow of blood to the atria. Thus, this way direction of blood flow is maintained.
