ANSWER: There have been some concern that sternous weight bearing exercises are bad for children below 12 yrs of age because these type of weight training may cause injury to the child or not increase the muscle strength. It is not usually recommended to prevent resistance exercise may put lot of weight on the growing bone and cartilage that is yet to develop as a bone leading to increased chance for injuries. It may also cause damages to the muscle involved and results in decrease in the muscle strength.
