When and why would a SLP refer a patient to an Ear Nose and Throat doctor (ENT)?
Speech and language pathologist deal with patients having difficulty in speaking, language comprehension, due to deteriorating medical conditions or congenital problems. SLP will refer a patient to ENT if they feel the underlying medical reason of speech impairment should be treated in order to gain improvement in patients condition. For example, in case of tumour in brain area which results in speech and language impairment, the ENT should be the person to solve it. SLP mainly provide rehabilitation after the medical reason solved by ENT doctor. If SLP suspects infection, brain trauma etc, then also they will refer for ENT advise
