how does brown fat turn food into heat?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Brown fat turn food into heat in the following way:

  1. ATP is produced in the mitochondria through a process called chemiosmosis.
  2. The proton motive force ( the electrochemical) is used by the ATP synthase to produce ATP
  3. Brown fat contains a large number of mitochondria
  4. In brown fat, on the inner aspect of the mitochondria is present a protein called uncoupling protein 1.
  5. This protein reduces the proton motive force.
  6. As a result, ATP is not produced
  7. On the contrary, this energy is released in the form of heat.

Design a program that asks for the number of fat grams and calories in a food item. Validate the input as follows: Make sure the number of fat grams and calories is not less than 0. According to nutritional formulas, the number of calories cannot exceedfatgrams×9. Make sure that the number of calories entered is not greater than fatgrams×9. Once correct data has been entered, the program should calculate and display the percentage of calories that come from fat. Use...

± Using Microwave Radiation to Heat Coffee Microwave ovens use microwave radiation to heat food. The microwaves are absorbed by the water molecules in the food, which is transferred to other components of the food. As the water becomes hotter, so does the food. Part A Suppose that the microwave radiation has a wavelength of 11.2 cm . How many photons are required to heat 305 mL of coffee from 25.0 ∘C to 62.0 ∘C? Assume that the coffee has...

Food manufacturers add synthetic antioxidants, BHA and BHT or vitamin C to products that contain fat in order to add shelf life to foods. The additions of these antioxidants don't allow the foods to breakdown into rancid by products of polyunsaturated fats. If these antioxidants help to assist in slowing down the breakdown of rancid polyunsaturated fats, does the addition of polyunsaturated fats to these food products affect how fast our body can break down and utilize the polyunsaturated fats...

A dog manufacturer must monitor the grams of fat contained in a food item. When the manufacturing process is in control, the grams of fat in the food form a normal population with a mean of 22.1 grams and a standard deviation of 0.7 of a gram. Compute the upper and lower control limits of an x-bar chart for 40 samples of size 8.
