Answer
Urinary bladder is the organ of urinary system that functions to
store the urine.
There are three adaptations of urinary bladder
wall that facilitates its function :
1) Transitional epithelium
- The epithelial lining of the urinary bladder contist of
multiple layer of cells that can change shape and
structure as the bladder distend.
- This transition helps the bladder to expand and
contract to accomodate and release the urine.
- Transitional epithelium is also known as
uothelium.
2) Rugae
- There are numerous mucosal folds in the inner
surface of bladder.
- They unfold to let the bladder expand in order
to accomodate urine volume.
3) Lamina propria
- The lamina propria contains loose connective tissue and
large number of elastic fibers.
- This allows bladder to stretch when the
bladder gets full.
