How is Aristotle's idea of of Virtue Ethics consistent with the
three Criteria of Adequacy?
Critera of Adequacy
1.Consistency with considered moral judgments
2.Consistency with our moral expereinces
3.Usefulness in moral problem solving
Unlike the deontology and utilitarian perspective of morality that asks what is the right action here and now, virtue ethics asks what kind of person should one be in order to get it right all the time. This focus itself promotes consistency with moral judgements and moral experiences, that should remain steadfast over changing circumstances. Aristotle also emphasised eudaimonia as the goal of human life. Eudaimonia consists of exercising the characteristic human quality, reason, as the soul's most proper and nourishing activity. Therefore, reasoning can be an extremely useful characteristic in moral problem solving.
