The hip joint is a ball and socket joint between the femoral
head and acetabulum. The articulating structures found in this
joint are the primary anatomical structure which helps in both
strengthening and enhancing the stability of this joint. The two
anatomical structures are as follows
- Acetabular labrum: This is cartilage which is strong and has a
ring-like structure. It forms the articulating structure between
the femur head and acetabulum holding them together with greater
strength and stability.
- Articular capsule : This is a capsular ligament that is seen
around the neck of femur and attached to acetabulum. This capsule
is very much thick and it provides greater resistance against force
exerted on the join due to body weight thereby stabilising the
joint.
