Angina pectoris is commonly known as chest pain. It is
discomfort and feeling of pain in chest radiating to left arm and
chest tightness.
Angina occurs when there is reduced supply of blood to heart
muscles.
Atherosclerosis is a condition leading to fat diposition in the
walls of arteries. As a result arteries become hard and
narrow.
The blood flow through these arteries is reduced.
When small coronary arteries which supply blood to heart
muscles is affected by atherosclerosis, the oxygen-rich blood
supply to heart muscles is highly compromised.
This leads to angina.
This is the reason that atherosclerosis contribute to
angina.
