Discuss the construct “resistance” in terms of:
How can it be conceptualized?
What might contribute to it?
How might it be reframed as something positive?
What are some appropriate counseling responses to it, including strategies for working with it?
Resistance is controlling something. It may be controlling ideas, controlling thougts. Not letting to speak about it. It can be concetualized by the idea of restricting oneself. If one allows the mind to speak or think about it continously then there is no discipline to thoughts or even to behaviour. The behaviour goes out of control or there appears to be indiscipline.
Resistance contributes to discipline. If one resists the monetary spending, one controls the extra expedniture then it is always helpful for future. However extra resistance may lead to over discipline and a boring life.
Positive can always fetched by restrictive thinking. Restriction of today can have something positive tomorrow. For eg: restrictive of hard working and not having fun may lead to to good marks, followed by good job and a quality of life and eace of mind.
Many a times anorexia, or OCD or any phobia may come in normal life due to restrcitive thinking. For eg: i cognitive behavioural therapy, when the thoughts are discussed and when it is time to change the thoughts. The negative thoughts related to any disorder are changed, so that there is change in behaviour. Behaviour therapist work by changing behaviour then it changes thoughts. For eg: in operant conditioning, negative reeinforcement are given in order to control or to have restrictive thinking. For eg: in school, marks, punishment is given in order to control indisciplined behaviour.
