During a review of competition video, you observe that Mr Q is unable to maintain the orientation of his trunk during the later stages of his run (excessive extension in his lumbar spine). It appears that he is unable to use his trunk muscles to prevent that from happening. You decide to assess the control of Mr Q’s trunk muscles.

a) List one (1) test that you would perform to evaluate his ability to control his trunk muscles and justify why you have chosen it.

a) Briefly describe one (1) exercise that you prescribe to Mr Q to improve his trunk muscle endurance and one (1) progression of that exercise (including sets, repetitions, frequency and duration).

Answer #1

Muscular endurance is the ability of a muscle to exert force, consistently over a period of time.
Adequate trunk muscle endurance is needed to have an injury-free performance especially for athletes. The simple exercise i can suggest are plank, situps, pushup. I can explain about the exercise plank in detail. First, lie the body on the stomach. Keep the legs flatand upper body balanced by forearm.by tightening low back muscles and shoulders, lifting up the hip from the ground. Hold for 25 to 30 sec and then relax. This is the one complete repetition. Perform 5 reps.. at the end, arms will be quivering.. thats the indication that you have reached the limit.
