Most of the sports require leanness such as soccer, basketball, baseball, cricket, athelitcs gymnastics etc. Because these sports need running and fast body movements. But a fat player cant run or sprint with heavy body weight. so for this type of sports - less fat = better performance.
For the sports wher body movement is comparatively less/ or less running and jumping etc. such as sumo wrestler, weight lifter, shooting, archiery. Lean body is not an criteria for better performance.
Heavy weight or fatness is beneficial in sports like- sumo wrestling, weight lifting.
