Explain how the structure of the alveoli benefit gas exhange.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Alveoli are the small bags at the end of bronchioles. There are millions of alveoli.

Alveoli have a very thin membrane. All around the alveoli there are minute capillaries.

These capillaries carry deoxygenated blood. They have less concentration of oxygen inside them.

So, the air inside the alveoli is rich in oxygen. The concentration of oxygen is more inside the alveoli.

The surface area of alveoli is more. The membrane of the alveoli is very thin. There is a difference in the concentration of oxygen in the alveoli and the blood in the capillaries.

So, all these conditions make it easier for the diffusion of oxygen.
