Question

Create a simple 0, 1 integer model for a situation or problem you face in your life. Is there an optimal solution for your problem? What type of model would you use to create an optimal solution? Explain.

Answer #1

Everyday I face the problem of which items I should carry to work

Either I carry my laptop, or my phone charger or my umbrella

Apparently my bag is strong enough to let me carry just 2 of these items (and not all 3)

Its also rainy season here, so chances of it raining (and me needing my umbrella) are quite high

Thus, I have a certain utility of each of these items, say Laptop - 40%, Phone Charger - 40%, Umbrella - 20% (on most days)

But on rainy days: Laptop - 20%, Phone Charger - 40%, Umbrella - 40% (on most days)

So depending on the day I want to maximize either or

you face in your life. Is there an optimal solution for your
problem? What type of model would you use to create an optimal
solution? Explain.

Describe a problem you face in your everyday life or at work.
How might you use hypothesis testing to find a solution or
improvement to that problem? Would you conduct a one-sample or
two-sample test? What would be your null and alternative

1.If you see 'Model Type - NLP Convex' in the Model Diagnosis
area of the Task Pane Model tab of the Analytic Solver Platform
(ASP) after you conducted a convexity test, you may conclude
that:
a. The problem does not have a
feasible solution.
b. The algorithm cannot find a
local optimal solution.
c. A local optimal solution found
is also a global optimal solution.
d. You minimized the number of
decision variables.

Switzerland has lots of tunnels. Too many vehicles in
the tunnel can create a hazardous situation. On average the time to
pass Gotthard tunnel has mean of 12.1 minutes and standard
deviation of 3.8 under ordinary traffic conditions. It is assumed
that if the traffic passes the tunnel slower than in 13 minutes, it
creates a ventilation problem for the tunnel. If the time is faster
than 11 minutes, the movement is too fast and
dangerous.
