An experiment was designed to measure how long subjects could track a moving target on a computer screen. The target moved erratically according to a predetermined program. As the experiment was designed, the first 6 subjects (volunteers recruited by signs along the main campus walkway) were tested under a control condition with no distractions, the next 12 were to be tested under a flashing light distraction, and the next 18 were to be tested under a loud noise distraction.
a. Is this an appropriate experimental design? If not, why not?
b. Suggest improvements to the design
a. Is this an appropriate experimental design? If not, why not?
In this study the level of study are good ie. no distractions, flashing light distraction and loud noise distraction but the ample size seems to be inappropriate.
The study should have nearly close sample size for each of the experiment for the best estimates.
b. Suggest improvements to the design
A sample of 12 can be used for each of the experiment ie. no distractions, flashing light distraction and loud noise distraction to improve the study
