For an assignment, I had to conduct an experiment. I believe that to be able to compute the t-scores for my experiment, I need a hypothesized mean. I've already calculated the mean from my data, but how do I find the hypothesized mean?
It's for a statistics for the behavioral science course. Thanks in advance!
Hypothesized mean is basically just a population mean value that we assume to be true and is to be test against an alternative hypothesis. It is also called as the null mean.
For eg. If you have SAT scores for a bunch of students, the teachers claim with new techniques the scores have increased. Assuming that the previous SAT mean was '1250'. Our hypothesis would be
Null Hypo: Hypothesized mean = 1250
VS
Alternative Hypo: True population mean > 1250 (Since claim is that the score has increased with the introduction of a new technique)
