"All right. I need everyone in the conference room. Now!" said Celia, the communication supervisor at Protagoras, shouting across her department's cubicles. "What do you think this is all about?" Krystal asked of Jasper after catching his glance. "I have no idea, but I'm sure somehow it'll end in me doing more work," Jasper said sardonically. As Jasper and Krystal strolled into the conference room, Alexander and Ariel were already taking their seats around the mahogany conference table, where everyone else was already sitting. "Let's go, let's go. Take a seat," Celia said, trying to hurry them. "What's all this commotion about?" asked Ariel. "Well, I've just finished my meeting with management. We talked about personnel issues and the policy manual," replied Celia. "What's the problem?" asked Jasper. "Management is upset with Internet usage at headquarters and in our stores. You see, employees have been abusing their Internet access. They are forwarding jokes or other junk mail that's jamming our system, downloading music or other media files for personal use, shopping, surfing the web, checking sports scores, and sending non-work-related e-mails using their Protagoras account, just to name a few. Now I know that none of the employees in my department would be doing these sorts of things…" Celia said in an accusatory tone, "…but there are others out there who are. Your Internet access at Protagoras should be used for doing work that's associated with your job. Do you all remember that new guy in accounting, Steve?" Celia asked. "Oh, I do. He either sent horribly worded e-mails or inappropriate forwards that had nothing to do with work," chimed in Alexander. "Well, it turns out, there will be a new 'new guy' in accounting starting next week. Steve was let go after they found things on his hard drive that I don't even want to mention," Celia said. "What's computer use have to do with the policy manual?" asked Jasper. "Good question, Jasper," answered Celia. "The problem is that currently we have no computer policy in place. Since we can't print the employee policy manual again until next year due to cost, management wants us to send a persuasive memo to all employees, including those who work in our stores, encouraging appropriate use of the Internet at work. I know we're all busy right now, but Jasper and Krystal, can you two take on this task?" "Sure," answered Krystal, looking across the table to smile at Jasper. "Great. Thanks for your time. I'll get you two a copy of the new computer policy that will be included in next year's employee policy manual. Everyone else, back to work," said Celia. "Told ya so," Jasper said to Krystal as they walked out of the conference room.
