You are asked to design a study to examine the relationship between preoperative B/P and postoperative hematocrit. What is the independent variable in this study?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Independent variable is preoperative B/P or blood pressure

preoperative blood pressure is independent variable because it is not dependent on the postoperative hematocrit value, but the postoperative hematocrit. is dependent on the preoperative blood pressure. Postoperative hematocrit can be changed based on the preoperative blood pressure and we can use the preoperative blood pressure data to find the regression equation that can predict the postoperative hematocrit.

Hence, independent variable is preoperative blood pressure and dependent variable is postoperative hematocrit.

You decide to do a 2 x 2 between subjects factorial design to examine how feedback on Facebook posts influence well-being. You are studying active (multiple posts a day) Facebook users. There are two independent variables, each with two levels. IV A is Facebook "likes." For two days, participants will receive zero "likes" on all their Facebook posts or between 25-50 "likes" on all posts. IV B is Facebook comments. For two days, participants will receive no comments on all...
