LINEAR REGRESSION QUESTION: Which is the most strongly correlated (positive or negative) with W?

W 0.64897388 -0.083869657 -0.22043269 0.29138643 0.63958634 -0.37060494 0.61681089 0.097566255 0.050398793 -0.12016668 0.17639267 0.45126329 0.26667307 0.25635283 -0.24162473 -0.28408526 0.47712283

Also, can you put the rule about strong correlation?

Answer #1

We know that the correlation coefficient r values vary between -1 to 1

If value is close to -1 or 1, then it is considered strong, but if correlation value is close to 0, then it is considered weak. When checking for strong correlation, check only numerical value as numerical value tells us whether the correlation is strong or weak and sign of correlation tells us about the direction of correlation

Looking at the given table, the highest value is 0.64897388

therefore, in the given data set values of r, the highest value of correlation is  0.64897388

So, variable with correlation value of  0.64897388 is strongly correlated with W and it is positive correlation

The variables height and weight could reasonably be expected to have a positive linear correlation coefficient, since taller people tend to be heavier, on average, than shorter people.
