Identify the variable and give their type (Categorial or Quantitive Discrete or Quantitive Continuous). [hint: 3 of them are categorial]

a) Filter Noise

b) Type of Filter (2 types)

c) Vehicle Size (3 Sizes)

d) Side of Car (2 Sides)

Can you explain this question im confused differentiating categorial and quantitive variables.

Answer #1

Cateogorical variables are those variables for which the data can be divided into categories but no numerical measure can be found for this.

In the given case, we can measure the filter noise in decibals which is the unit of sound and hence, this would be a quantitative variable.

On the other hand, the other three variables are having only categories (For example, 2 Types of Filter) so these would be categorical variables.

Hence,

a) Quantitative

b) c) d) Categorical
