In general, when we have a normal distribution, we change it to the standard normal distribution. What is the reason for that??

Answer #1

In general, when we have a normal distribution, we change it to the standard normal distribution because the transformation of a normal variable to a standard normal distribution does not affect the characteristics of the distribution. Hence, it helps and easier to compute required probabilities for different normal distributions. For example, the time taken by male and female athletes to complete a 400-meter race follows the normal distribution. The mean and standard deviation for males is 4 minutes and 1 minute whereas for females 5 minutes and 2 minute. If John completes the race at 3 minutes and Eva completes the race at 4 minutes. Among John and Eva, which one is the best within their gender. In this question, we can compute the probability by transforming to standard normal and can compare their performances.

conception: for the null hypothesis test problem why we can use standard normal distribution table? by the central limited theorem and law of large number we have that when n is getting large, then the sample distribution will be normal distribution but it doesn't mean it is standard normal distribution. Open the Excel program Suppose we want to know the standard normal distribution up to the given value. That is P(Z < a). Lets use Excel instead of the standard normal distribution table In cell A1 type mean. In cell B1 type 0. That means that we are letting mean be zero. click on cell A2 and type SD. In cell B2 type 1. That means that we are letting standard deviation be one. That is, the normal distribution is...

Last week we looked at the properties of the normal distribution and have found that it is the basis for much of inferential statistics. But not all data follows that normal distribution. Are we in trouble? No. Enter the Central Limit Theorem (CLT). What is the CLT? Why does it make the use of the common inferential tools possible even if the raw data is not distributed normally?
