a)For the question please specify the design of the experiment((1-way, 2-way, etc., independent groups, repeated measures or mixed) and the experimental model (fixed, random or mixed.)
i. A researcher wants to examine the impact of students’ programs and class attendance on their reported time investment in a research project. One hundred undergraduate students who had completed a course with a research component were asked how many hours they had spent on their research project during the term (each student did only one project). Some students were in the honours program and some in the majors program. Some research courses, regardless of program, required class attendance, while others did not.
ii. A researcher was interested in the relationship between alcohol consumption and job-related factors. His study examined the number of drinks consumed per week with work colleagues versus (non-work related) friends for 200 high, medium or low income males who worked in jobs in which they had high or low- frequency job pressure and either high or low job control.
b)For this question specify the factor(s) and the number of levels of each. State whether each factor is fixed or random. State whether each factor is independent groups or repeated measures. If independent groups, state whether the factor is a treatment or classification variable.
this is what I had but its missing 2 factors:
Factors - Job pressure (high, low)
- Job control (high, low)
Job Pressure and Control are FIXED factors as they can be classified into either High or low levels.
Both the factors are independent groups.
Part (i)
This is two way experiment. The two factors are: student programs and class attendance.
The two factors are mentioned to be independent. The experimental model is fixed. The sampling units are same and there program, class attendance and time investment in research project is recorded
.
Part (ii)
It is two way experiments. Job factors: income level, pressure level is the independent variables and the dependent variable is alcohol consumption. It is a random model wherein random selection of sapling units employees is done to conduct the research
Job pressure: high and low, it has two levels
income level: high, medium or low, it has three levels
