I got this this wrong: H0: µ = 6, and the alternative would be H0: µ ≠ 6

**Need assistance with correct answer

There are 12 babies in the study. The claim is whether newborns through 12 months of age and time of adoption (before 12 months of age) have anything to do with attachment issues. *When considering what the hypotheses means is the older the baby is at the time of adoption the more likely the infant will have attachment issues. I don't understand what I did exactly.

feedback was given:

Remember that the Alternative hypothesis would reflect the research hypothesis, and with how you've written it using the symbols (ha does not = 6), you are stating that attachment issues would occur at any age besides 6 months. Remember that the research hypothesis would reflect in your Alternative, as we seek to disprove the Null and then accept the Alternative. Make sense? NO---.

Answer #1

When we state the null hypotheses the alternative signs have to be carefully mentioned. Carefully analyse what the question is asking. When using this we say that the babies younger than 6 months have attachment issues. So we would use one sided test. Similarly if we state alternative to be we are claiming that babies older than 6 months have attachment issues. Again we would use one sided test. But if we use we are saying that either older or younger than 6 months old both will have attachment issues. Therefore we would use two sided test. Due to these reasons required answer might differ.
