If a study does not have a hypotheses, but has a research question, can you still have a statistical significance and still fail to reject or reject?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

If a study dies not have hypotheses, but has a research question alone, there is no point of statistical significance or failing to reject or rejecting, because these terms are usedin context of hypotheses only.

For example :

Null hypothesis: There is no difference in heights of two groups.

Alternative hypothesis: There is difference in heights ofvtwo groups.

Here we will either reject null hypothesis in favour of alternative OR fail to reject null hypothesis.

If hypothesis itself are not there, what will we reject or not reject.

You are volunteering in a research lab and are tasked with the following question: Does myostatin treatment reduce cancer cell proliferation in vitro? To answer this, you culture (grow) human prostate cancer cells in petri dishes and treat them with either myostatin (10 micromol/L) or pbs (as a control) for 72 hours. You measure the cell viability (% survival) as a proxy for cell proliferation. Your data are located in the table below. 1) **Now you need to analyze your...

Research is an integral part of all professional fields. Designing a research study can be a complicated task that can be simplified if the appropriate techniques can be identified. This assignment will give you the opportunity to design an experiment, including finding relevant prior research, determining the appropriate sample, data analysis techniques, and discuss the results you hope to see. Working from the topic chosen earlier in the topic selection, you will be designing your own statistical study. In a...
