Children grow physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually during adolescence. There are ways of coping with such changes that occur socially and emotionally. One way of dealing is to talk about certain issues. These could include substance use to sexual activities, parents should be the first people to bring them awareness regarding the myths and confusions surrounding them. Parents should refrain from using a harsh tone even when their adolescent child, stands with a different point of view.
Adolescence is also the time for mood swings and parents should be patient with their changes in behaviour. They should emphasise on empathy and good listening. Shouting back to an angry adolescent would never be right. Instead, parents can teach them better ways of expressing their anger. Parents should try to know their adolescents' friends before dismissing them and should try to spend a little time with them as well. Moreover, having a family time is very important at this stage.
