Your chapter on the subject of learning discusses ways to use "Behavioral Modification" on page 173. The steps of behavior modification include: 1. Identify the target behavior (i.e., increase your sleep); 2. Gather and record baseline data (i.e.., record how many hours of sleep you get for several days); 3. Plan your behavior modification program (i.e., develop a plan); 4. Choose your reinforcers (i.e., what will you get if you achieve your goal?"; and 5. Set the reinforcement condition and begin recording and reinforcing your progress (i.e., when will you get rewarded?").
For this discussion question, please set a goal of a behavior that you would like to modify/change. Develop a personal behavior modification plan for yourself, identify each step of the behavior modification plan as outlined in the book and above. Share your plan with the class in detail and discuss your progress.
Your response must be at least 2 paragraphs in length (1 paragraph = 5 sentences).
Instructions:
Make your initial post by 23:59 EST Sunday (5/27) of Week 3.
Grading Rubric
Your assignment will be graded according to the grading rubric:
1. Respond to all parts of the discussion question (10 points).
2. Response is at least 2 paragraphs in length (5 points).
3. Response has proper grammar and spelling (5 points).
the target behaviour is to increase the duration of sleep. the baseline data is collected by recording the duration of my sleep. the time of when I go to sleep and the time I wake up is recorded for two weeks. so that inferences can be made of the duration of sleep on different days, according to the schedule on those days. the plan will include setting a major goal and various small goals to achieve that goal. the major goal is to get in bed at 11:30. the goal is realistic and will ensure 8 hours to sleep. the small goals include getting all your work done before bedtime and getting physical exercise to exhaust the body and sleeping at the right time.
for any behaviour modification plan to work, the reinforcements and punishments are very important. one punishment for not accomplishing the major goal of getting in bed at 11:30, is that not letting yourself take a nap the next day. the reinforcements should be worth the effort. the bigger the reward, the more likely an individual is to accomplish those goals. for sleeping on time for 6 days a week and accomplishing tasks, I can go on a bike ride with my friends to a place that is about an hour away from my house. the last step is to record your progress and follow the plan. the reinforcements and punishments should be considered to facilitate the behaviour modification process.
