How can you engage students in reading? In what ways can you motivate students to be proactive readers?

Some children enjoy reading while some hate .But it comes naturally , however student can be motivated for reading and that can be done by many ways . As a teacher we come across many students who don't like reading but it is not job that we should reach them what is good and reading in very good.

So here are some steps which will help student to take up reading .

Make yourself useful , and start reading in front of them and tell them how important is to read .

Tell them to read the chapter before you start discussing it .Like if you are going to explain something tell them to read that chapter first and than you will discuss it .

As them why they don't like to read , and once you get your answer well you will find your way to tackle it. For example some of them find reading a lengthy process , so you can advice them to read atleast in short story daily so they can build a reading habit which will help them in future .

Teach them strategy of reading , many students don't like reading because of heavy words ,but you tell them how to pronounce it and teach the ways to tackle it.

Give them choices , allow them to choice their own books this will really help to build a habit of reading . However give them time to complete that book in certain time .

This steps will definitely make them proactive readers and it will realy engage them in reading . These are the simplest ways to help a student and I have give examples of both how to engage students and how to be a proactive reader . However , I will tell once again reading is natural ,students and people adopt reading we can just help them to find their way . There are many great leaders and businessman who didn't love reading at all but they were successful in life . So just show them way , it will become easy for them if they love it they will learn .
