Openness to experience can be defined as a trait associated with being accepting of new ideas and alternative points of view, appreciative of new concepts, imaginative and creative and generally inquisitive and curious.

  • Career choices
    • Tend to be highly spatial, imaginative, and creative
    • Sensitive to their inner thoughts, capability to analyse matters differently
    • Often considered to be good leaders
    • Likely to take calculated risks - more learning, new experiences
    • Likely to perform better in career choice in entrepreneurs
    • More likely to be successful in research, science and engineering cadres

  • Romantic Relationships
    • Craves novelty and adventure may not be a good match for someone who prefers structure and consistency
    • Tend to value art and culture over tradition and security
    • More acceptance and loving relationship

  • Lifestyle/ Neighbourhood
    • Thrive on spontaneous lifestyles over rigid routines and seek out intense moments
    • Tends to indulge into sensations

Personal choices are a reflection of a lot more than one trait from Big 5. The traits do not work in isolation and need to be interpreted with other factors.
