Answer #1

Literature social and cultural backgrounds work effectively. The setting includes house because with the presentation of the house the cultural and social settings are partly presented. The houses are symbolic presentation of the characters environmental and social status.

In drama the social setting includes house and various parts of the houses like rooms and outside of the room. In drama houses are presented as reality on the stage. Various parts of household activities are present on the stage to create reality before the audience. Besides, during action the the heaviest things used in the household activities are also used by the characters.

But in novel the houses are presented in narratives. There all the details are not always mentioned there. Here house is presented as social and environmental background of the characters. The reality of novel is not like that of drama. Here the characters are to present the reality and there is no need to present the reality before the audience.

There is close relationship between man and nature. Man has to face various types of troubles in nature. Sometimes nature works in favor of them and sometimes nature goes against them. There are many situations when man needs to suit himself with nature. In The Return Of The Native by Thomas Hardy, Eustacia fails to continue struggle against nature. In Riders to the Sea, we also find unequal struggle between man and sea.

The writers portray nature as the living force acting on the characters. They show how nature influence people and how nature forces people to obey it. In most of the cases man is victim of he goes against nature.
