Why are we more likely to use sarcasm with our friends than our enemies?

We are more likely to use sarcasm with our friends rather than out enemies perhaps because sarcastic statements can be expressed in multifarious ways which maybe only understood by individuals close to us. It is known that there exist several indicators of sarcasm that a speaker or a writer can express with pitch, tone, volume, pauses, duration and punctuation. In order to truly communicate the underlying jibe of the message, it is important that the recipient understands us and how we usually speak when we are not sarcastic.
