Employee Development

Often we tend to think of employee development in terms of formal training sessions. Which "other" methods have you experienced, and which have been more/less effective? Why?

Answer #1

Employee development can happen by practice sessions, role play, test and reports on on-the-job applicability. Instead of formal training sessions, where one person provides information and employees listen, is totally ineffective as people would tend to listen for the sake of completing the training session and reaps no benefit. Instead, having the above mentioned methods on regular intervals has some change on the behaviour and repitition of it can make it a habit. I have experienced role play training sessions but since it was just for a day, the training did not have lasting effect. Nonetheless, it is always better than lecture sessions.

In addition, these processes help companies keep talented employees, compete in a changing economy, and meet the challenges associated with technological advances...
