Equipotentiality is a theory in psychology which spans across behaviourism as well as neuropsychology. This is defined as “The apparent capacity of any intact part of a functional brain to carry out… the [memory] functions which are lost by the destruction of [other parts]" by Karl Spencer Lashley.
In simpler words, the brain has the ability to allow other parts of the to take over the action of the parts of the brain that has been damaged in some or the other way. This coincides with the function of law of mass action. This law says that the ability of the cortex to perform a complex function is proportionate to the damage of the brain as a whole and not proportionate to the damage of a particular area. This means that, other areas will contribute in carrying out functions of the damaged area, but as a whole, the ability of the humans to carry out complicated functions would be reduced.
