Many therapists believe our thoughts and behaviors are connected. With that being said, how can CT have long-lasting changes and does it change behavior, even if this isn’t being (directly) worked on in therapy?
The effectiveness of cognitive therapy mostly depends on the therapist and the clients. With the individual differences, the effectiveness and the lasting differ. With that being said, cognitive therapy is of the belief that feeling, thoughts and behavior are all interrelated, and the individual work according to it. Therefore, if the thoughts and feelings about certain things are being corrected and rationally addressed, the behavior is ultimately improved. They can have a lasting effect even without directly working on the therapy. This is because the change will happen in the cognitive level and the person will act accordingly.
