A growing evidence suggests that child abuse is a causal contributor to many emotional and behavioral problems, including juvenile delinquency (Lemmon 1999). The children who were abused in their childhood; later become sexually violent, a person may not become a sexual abuser unless he or she himself experience the sexual trauma of some form (Bagley, Wood, and Young 1994; Dutton and Hart 1992; Ford and Linney 1995; Prendergast 1991). This happens because such children suffer from low self-esteem and guilt, which leads to crime.

Children who are victims of neglect are at a high risk of becoming delinquent because there is no one in the family to nurture them on the right lines and they get influenced by the environment negatively.
