Our text presents a quote from Karl Popper (p. 38) - "Theories are
nets cast to catch what we call 'the world'" to rationalize, to
explain, and to master it. Consider this statement and discuss with
your peers. Do you agree that we need to rationalize the world, so
we create theories? Why or why not?
Theories are frameworks that help human beings to understand their world. It help to quench their inquisitiveness. It gives them opportunities to study the world in which they and predict about the various concepts and phenomena with they interact ,and that impact their life.
We as human being make many theories in our daily life ,as we see and observe our surroundings. These theories of our life are based on our experiences and study of the world around us. We make guesses and try to prove them as we proceed in our life, and these studies postulate our own theories,on the basis theories we predict the future happenings in our life. These theories help to interpret the world around us and gives us perception of our life.
Similarly, researchers study the various concepts and phenomena of the world to gain better understanding, to interpret and predict them scientifically. It is thus, through theories we explain and simplify the world in which we live to master it.
Hence, the quote of Karl Popper is agreed, we need theories to rationalize the world.
